Looking For an Adults Only Cruise? Here Are 10 Things You Should Know Before Booking

Looking For an Adults Only Cruise? Here Are 10 Things You Should Know Before Booking

An adults only cruise can suit couples, friends, or solo travelers looking for a trip without children onboard. But age rules, inclusions, routes, and cancellation terms vary by cruise line and fare. Here are 10 things to check before you book.

1. Check the age requirement

“Adults only” does not mean the same thing on every cruise. Virgin Voyages, for example, is for guests aged 18 and older. Check the cruise line’s age rule and confirm that everyone in your party meets it by the required date. Some lines may set a different minimum age or apply different rules to certain sailings.

2. Consider the onboard atmosphere

A child-free ship can still have a lively, social atmosphere. Think about what you want from the trip: quiet time by the pool, group activities, late-night entertainment, or a mix. Look at the ship’s daily program and facilities, and ask whether the overall pace fits your preferences.

Virgin Voyages recently marked two million guests, a milestone that reflects the line’s growing place in adults-only cruising. That popularity may make it especially useful to compare sail dates and cabin choices early.

3. Match the itinerary to your vacation

Start with the destinations and the time you have. A short cruise can offer a few days away, while a longer itinerary may include more ports and sea days. Check how long the ship stays in each port, what days are spent at sea, and whether the destinations match the type of trip you want.

For example, the four-night Brilliant Lady sailing connected to the JetBlue Vacations “Do Not Disturb” offer was scheduled to visit Key West and Bimini in March 2027. The offer is now marked sold out, but it shows how flights, transfers, and a short cruise can be packaged together. See the offer details for its itinerary and terms.

4. Read what the fare includes

A cruise fare may cover some meals and entertainment but not everything you plan to use. Virgin Voyages lists dining at its onboard restaurants, basic Wi-Fi, essential drinks, group fitness classes, and entertainment among its inclusions. Alcohol, spa treatments, shore excursions, and some other purchases can cost extra. Check the current inclusions and extra costs before comparing prices.

5. Compare fare options and gratuities

The lowest advertised fare may come with fewer benefits or more restrictions. Check what each fare offers for Wi-Fi, dining reservations, changes, and cancellation. Also look for gratuities as a separate line item. Virgin Voyages’ current fare model displays service gratuities separately, with different rates for prepayment and payment onboard. Review the fare terms and your live quote so you know the total before booking.

6. Plan the journey to and from the ship

Cruise planning includes more than the sailing. Check which airport is closest to the port, how you will get between them, and whether you need a hotel night before departure. If you book flights separately, leave enough time to reach the ship if there is a delay. A cruise ship cannot wait for a late flight.

Some packages include transfers or other logistics, but check the details. The JetBlue Vacations “Do Not Disturb” offer, for instance, included round-trip flights from JFK to Fort Lauderdale and transfers to Miami’s cruise port. The offer’s booking window has closed, so don’t assume those package benefits are available with a cruise-only booking.

7. Check current promotions carefully

The “Do Not Disturb” package paired adults-only flights with an adults-only Virgin Voyages cruise for March 4–8, 2027. It was limited to adults 18 and older, required two guests, and included selected extras such as a cabin Bar Tab and priority boarding. It is now listed as sold out, and its booking window ended October 27, 2026.

Use the JetBlue Vacations page to review the published offer details, but confirm availability and terms directly before making plans. Promotions can have limited cabin types, payment rules, and cancellation conditions.

8. Add up the full trip cost

Before choosing a cruise, estimate the total cost for everyone traveling. Include the fare, gratuities, flights, transfers, hotel nights, travel insurance, and any excursions or extras you expect to buy. For drinks, Wi-Fi upgrades, and spa visits, check prices and what is included in your fare.

A package may combine some of these costs, but compare it with booking each part separately. Make sure you understand which services are included and which may require an additional payment.

9. Review cancellation terms and travel documents

Before paying a deposit, check whether the fare is refundable, what changes are allowed, and what happens if one guest needs to cancel. Package deals may have rules that differ from a regular cruise booking. For the “Do Not Disturb” offer, for example, the published terms said it was nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Check the cruise line’s document requirements for your itinerary and nationality. Make sure each traveler’s name matches their travel documents and that passports meet the line’s validity rules. Confirm requirements with the cruise line before departure.

10. Get help coordinating the details

A cruise involves several connected bookings: the sailing, flights, hotels, transfers, insurance, and activities. If you prefer not to manage each piece separately, a travel planner can help compare options, coordinate the details, and explain what is included.

AllPoint Booking helps travelers plan and book trips from the first idea through the return home. We can assist with cruise options, flights, hotels, tours, insurance, and trip logistics. Visit AllPoint Booking to discuss your plans.

Make your choice with the details in hand

The right adults only cruise depends on your preferred pace, destinations, budget, and onboard style. Check the age rules, itinerary, fare inclusions, full trip cost, and cancellation terms before you book. Then you can choose an option that fits the kind of vacation you want.
